Welcome
This beta site offers a small taste of the new features and enhancements on the way with DataPlace 2.0. Our goal is to make working with data as simple as possible, allowing users to focus on creating compelling stories about their communities. This revision takes several steps in that direction.
What's New?
- Search has been much improved to allow quick access to data and places from any page.
- Dual Maps allow you to easily compare views of places and themes.
- Rankings tools now make it a snap to generate ranked lists
- Data, including Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data for 2006.
- Chart tools are being completely re-worked.
- Preview Tools on the home page and places page give quick views into the data.
- Session Context Tools keep track of the places and indicators you're studying.
- And... several features we're excited to share soon.
Simplified Licensing
Less visible, but more exciting , are our new site building capabilities. Data sites like DataPlace are expensive to build and maintain. If you are a county supervisor, city information technologist, or work with an organization that has data to share, you may know how difficult it is to present and share data effectively online. We aim to change that by dramatically simplifying the process of building sites with DataPlace features such as thematic maps, charts, and other graphical views.
Our mantra for organizations thinking of building a new data-oriented website: stop reinventing the wheel. DataPlace partnerships allow you to focus on your data, not the technology.
Why 'Beta'?
While this site looks similar to DataPlace 1.0, much of the underlying code is entirely new. This is your chance to kick the tires and let us know how well our core features are working. Also, many of the features you know from DataPlace 1.0 are still in the process of being polished and added to the new codebase you see here. Over the coming months look for Custom Geographies, Dataset Uploading, Groups, Reports, Saving, sharing and exporting data and pages, Scatterplots, and Affiliate Tools.
Help Us Make DataPlace Even Better
